Chilly Easter disappoints arcades

The cold weather has kept the visitors away from the coast and the dry weather has kept them from the larger FECs, giving the industry a slightly disappointing Easter.

In Cleethorpes Owen Taylor, owner of Taylor Made Fun, told local press, “The weather was always going to be a factor, especially with Easter coming so early. Historically, Easter is the benchmark for the season, but last year we had a good Easter and then it fizzled out. Hopefully, we will have the opposite of that this year.”

William McArdle, owner of Mack’s Amusements also in Cleethorpes, said: “There was nobody here on Good Friday, Saturday was the same and Easter Sunday was just like an average Sunday. I put it down to the weather and economic state of the country.”

In Scotland, Funworld Leisure Ltd tweeted, “Hope you are all enjoying your Easter holidays, Funworld hasn’t been as manic due to the dry weather.”

However, Derek Petrie (pictured) was more upbeat, reporting from his FEC in Somerset, “Easter was surprisingly good, given the cold weather. Not quite as good as the last time Easter fell in March, but overall a reasonable start.”
