Pontins goes into administration

Pontins, the inconic British holiday camp chain, has gone into administration, threatening around 850 jobs.

Despite the recent trend for holidays in the UK, the company has suffered after being featured on the BBC Watchdog programme, which highlighted poor conditions. Customers then posted clips on the internet, showing the lack of investment in certain sites.

Pontins has provided half a century of low-cost British holidays in five sites in Somerset, East Sussex, Suffolk, Wales and Merseyside. A popular feature of the Pontins sites have been amusement arcades. KPMG has been appointed as administrator and said for the moment all sites are continuing to trade as normal.
