CCTV images of amusement arcade robbers released

Derbyshire police issued the stills of the two men — one sporting a balaclava — who burst in to the New Empire Casino Lounge, in West Street, Swadlincote, shortly after 6pm on Thursday, August 2.

Now detectives are appealing for help in identifying the pair after one brandished a knife and demanded money during the incident. They threatened two women in the shop, aged 32 and 41 respectively, who were ordered to hand over cash.

The pair gave them an undisclosed amount of cash and the robbers put some in a plastic bag and ran off along West Street towards the direction of Alexandra Road. There were customers in the arcade at the time but no one was injured.

The incident sparked a police hunt involving several patrol cars and the force helicopter. Both robbers were described as being white, around 5ft 7in tall and of medium build. One man wore dark clothing and a balaclava. The other had dark hair and the lower part of his face covered.

A spokesman for Derbyshire Police said: “Police responded quickly to this incident and no staff were harmed. “We’d urge anybody with information to contact us, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.”
