Bangers and Cash!

Jason Frost, AGC operator and vice chair of BACTA Division 3, is taking part in an unusual challenge to raise funds for the Rays of Sunshine Charity. Jason will be driving a car worth under £500 from Cornwall to Barcelona, leaving St Austell on September 20. The “Barcelona or Bust” challenge is organized by the St Austell and District Round Table and Jason knows to expect the unexpected.

“We are not sure of the route we are going to take because each day the drivers and their cars are set various challenges. Last year, the Banger Rally Challenge was “Monte Carlo or Bust” and upon their arrival in Calais, the drivers were presented with envelopes where they were instructed to have a photo taken with the car and a Calais daily newspaper at Lake Geneva! On another day when they were in Lyon they were told to do a circuit on the roof of the Fiat Factory in Turin. So, as you can see it will not just be a straight-forward trip to Barcelona. We will be driving a 15 year-old 240 Merc, so fingers crossed we make it!”

Despite the fun and games, Jason is hoping to raise £2000 for a very worthy cause. “Rays of Sunshine grant wishes to poorly children – some with life-limiting illnesses and some with life-long illnesses, and hopefully with the help of the amusement industry we can make some of these wishes come true,” he says. “I operate arcades myself and am aware of the state of the industry but having seen the Rays of Sunshine short film and having met some of the wish children I feel this is a very worthy cause.”
