OFT inspection into Novomatic deal takes longer than expected

When Coin-op Community broke the story that Novomatic had purchased the UK’s largest operator Gamestec, plus Bell-Fruit Games, RLMS and Mazooma back in February, industry sources predicted that the OFT inspection would take a couple of months to complete.

However, four months later we can reveal that the Office of Fair Trading is still investigating the impact of this deal on the UK coin-operated machine business. Several manufacturers have been contacted in the last week by officers from the government body and asked to give their views on how this large operating and manufacturing group will affect the rest of the sector. “We were given to believe that the deal was all but signed off by the OFT, but when we got a phone call this week we could only conclude that the process is still ongoing,” said a source.
