Sculpher: UK agent for Hess

German company HESS have announced that they are teaming up with UK casino consultant Paul Sculpher to launch their Polaris Scorpion ticket redemption kiosk into the UK market.

Erik De Kat, HESS’ Global Sales Manager, said that HESS Cash Systems and parent company Gauselmann felt the time was right to launch into the UK market. “We have been monitoring events in the UK for several years now, and exhibiting at the ICE show. We feel that as more UK operators are working towards integrating all of their electronic gaming terminals, both slots and electronic table games, it is a good time for us to showcase our voucher redemption terminal (VRT). When all devices in the casino are paying out the same type of ticket, it makes sense from a security and staffing point of view to automate the payout process, and with four note cassettes and five different coin hoppers, we believe our product, tried and tested across the world as it is, represents a good choice for the UK market”.

De Kat also spoke further about HESS’ choice of UK partner. “We chose Paul Sculpher as our UK agent as we’d dealt with him before, as a potential customer. He has already shown that he has solid connections across the UK casino industry and we look forward to working with him to present our products to all sectors of the UK gaming industry.” Sculpher, a veteran of 19 years in the UK gaming industry, is better known as an operational consultant and is working with many of the local authorities, assisting with the competition process for the 2005 Gambling Act licences.

He also writes for the gaming press, “I was delighted to be approached by HESS – some years ago as General Manager of Aspers Newcastle, we looked at this type of technology. Now that integration between all platforms is becoming complete and the Scorpion will be able to pay out all tickets from one kiosk, I feel it makes perfect sense for operators. Taking menial work such as ticket redemption and payout away from the cash desk will leave them better able to focus on the more important parts of the cashier’s job. The online nature of the Scorpion should also mean fewer discrepancies in the desk, and of course keeping a large proportion of the casino cash in a virtually impregnable box assists with security and indeed insurance premiums”.
