OFT clears Barcrest Sale

The Office of Fair Trading has cleared tr the sale of  Barcrest to Scientific Games.

The OFT said that it had decided not to refer the proposed buyout by New York-based lottery operator Scientific Games Corporation to the Competition Commission.

The OFT opened an investigation in May after concerns the deal would ‘result in a substantial lessening of competition’ in the sector.

Scientific Games already owns  The Global Draw, which has 18,000 machines in venues including bookmakers, and Wolverhampton’s Games Media, which specialises in amusement arcade machines in pubs.

Barcrest, which employs about 300 staff, had revenues of £45m in the year to September 30.
