Harding head of BISL Working Group

Nick Harding, CEO of Praesepe plc, has been announced as Chairman of the Business In Sport And Leisure (BISL) Gambling Working Group. Nick, who has 25 years’ experience in the high street gaming market with Corals, Bass, Rank, Talarius and currently Praesepe plc, succeeds Russell Hoyle.

Commenting on his appointment and the challenges facing the gambling industry, he said: “Business In Sport And Leisure is a unique organisation which enjoys a very good reputation with regulators and influencers alike. As a broad church which has divisions dedicated to employment, liquor licensing, property, sport and the broad visitor economy, BISL is able to engage with government in a number of different ways and at different levels, factors which make lobbying activities less confrontational and as a consequence a lot more effective.

“The Gambling Working Group is representative of the entire industry and is open to all members. The result is wide ranging and very productive discussions which provide the foundations for us to progress the case for gambling as a legitimate leisure activity delivered by organisations which have a strong commitment to social responsibility.”

Moving forward, Nick Harding believes that one of the major obstacles facing gambling is what BISL refers to as the ‘negative narrative’ surrounding it and the impact this has on government policy. He explained: “Russell Hoyle did a fantastic job identifying how bad press served as a hand brake to progressive regulation. My key objective is to use the collective influence of the Gambling Working Group and to start redressing the imbalance of coverage which is holding the industry back.”
