MGD online registration opens

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has opened online registration for the new Machine Games Duty (MGD). Those responsible for premises on which machine games are provided for play must register with HMRC for the MGD by January 1.

HMRC’s MGD Online Registration Service is designed to provide a secure, quick, and easy way to register. It will give an immediate on-screen acknowledgement that HMRC has received the application, and can be used by those responsible for premises where machine games are provided for play, or their agents. Once MGD has come into force, anyone wishing to take on responsibility for premises will have to register for the duty before machine games are provided for play there.

Around 190,000 of the 260,000 gaming machines in the UK are currently subject to AMLD. HMRC estimates that approximately 42,000 businesses with dutiable machine games will be impacted by MGD.
