AMS: A growing family business

Automatic Machine Services (AMS) is a family operating business, which was started in 1960 by Frank Jarrett. Frank was working as a car mechanic at the time, but after buying his first “one-armed bandit” and supplying it to a local café, he was hooked and the business never looked back.

Now, AMS is run by Frank’s son, Roger, who is currently Managing Director. Roger’s wife Chris and his two sons Jason and Garry are also involved in the business and are supported by a great team of dedicated staff.

AMS supplies a wide range of gaming and amusement products including digital and analogue AWPs, digital jukeboxes, pool tables, club and pub lottery ticket machines, SWPs, background music systems and videos to clients throughout the South-East.

“Since our inception, we have always insisted on the very highest levels of service while supplying the very best products to ensure we outperform our competitors,” says Jason Jarrett – Director. “Our client base is made up of clubs, leisure venues, free trade and tenanted public houses.

“Having supplied clubs and free trade public houses for many years, we knew we were very capable of also supplying to tenanted locations. Following nomination to approved supplier lists over the past few years, this has resulted in a steady growth in this area of our client base,” he adds.

AMS is always looking to the future and is keen to pursue additional supply contracts to Pubcos. This is as well as increasing the number of free trade, club and other leisure venues, but at all times continuing to maintain the highest levels of service to all its existing customers. “We are also keen to develop certain areas of the business which may involve additional staff and a possible move to larger premises,” says Jason.

However, the company is waiting to see what will happen with Machine Games Duty (MGD) first. “This is obviously of concern to everyone at the moment and we are all unclear as to its eventual effect on our businesses. We will, as always, adjust in the best way to ensure our company continues its steady growth and success in the future,” says Jason.

“We are very proud to be a family-run business that has grown from very little to now be a recognized quality supplier in such a competitive industry,” he adds. “We take nothing for granted and accept that hard work and long hours are often needed to keep the wheels in motion, so the next generation of our family can continue to drive the company forward for many years to come.”
